In couples counseling sessions, I work with couples to help create secure functioning so they can feel safe, secure, close, and experience true mutuality.  You’ll learn together how to create a more fulfilling relationship and feel more in love.

Happy couple

What is Couples Counseling?

As a PACT (Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy) trained therapist, I’m trained to help couples with any and all issues for which you might see professional help from a therapist. This approach is especially helpful for pre-marriage counseling, as well as for couples seeking to preserve a relationship in danger of divorce or dissolution.

What is the process like?

The root of the problem is found quickly and efficiently so the couple relationship can be restored with secure functioning, and partners being attentive and supportive of each other.

Throughout the session, I focus on moment-to-moment shifts in body language and will invite you to pay attention to these in your partner also.

The difficult experiences that are causing distress in your relationship may be recreated in session so you can work through them in real time.

PACT sessions are two or more hours to allow for more in-depth work to get to the heart of the matter, so you can more quickly experience connection, secure functioning, fairness, and collaboration.

Couples Counseling Can Help You:

  • Cut out confusing talk and arguments about who is right and who is wrong
  • Learn to attune to each other
  • Get to the heart of conflict and tension
  • Feel safe, secure and like things are fair
  • Feel more in love again with a vital sexuality.

Dr. Beth O’Brien, Licensed Psychologist

Personally, PACT strengthened my relationship with my husband in profound ways.  Relationships are built by both people – we don’t just fall into a bad or great relationship.  Yet, many of us did not learn these skills in our own families of origin and healthy relationship skills are not taught through culture.  My hope for everyone that works with me is they learn secure functioning principles and gain the benefits of feeling safe and secure.

Connection and true intimacy are truly attainable if both people want that.
